Modern Leopard Dress

I bought this fabric a couple of years ago from Laura's Fashion Fabric in
White Rock, BC & I love it!  I was thinking of a simply boatneck
shift dress but chose this very easy McCall's 6199 pattern.

It is that type of pattern that you can make a dress
in the afternoon to wear to dinner.....which I did.

I made the long sleeve version & added some Tiffany
Blue bias type for the neckline & cuffs.
I like the contrast!

p.s. I dont know why but it was hard to photograph this fabric

Powder Puff Skirt

A skirt my daughters made for me from
silk curtains (extra panel & a little help from me with the zipper)
that still grace my bedroom!

The hem is done in my fave hot pink & the pin
tucks had to be removed before sewing.

Vogue 1250 DKNY Metropolitan Dress

This is a seriously easy dress to make,
a 3 piece pattern!
I have made it before,
& that is what it should look like!

So how could I mess it up you ask?
Well.....by barely having enough of
this fabric I like to call metropolitan
as I have made 2 dresses
& a top with this cool fabric.

I was a teeny short on one end
that happened to be the sleeves
& the waist
& you can tell.

A little cardigan takes care of my mistake though
as I really like this jersey fabric.

Daughter's Dress

This is the New Look Pattern 6125 that I cut in a size 12 for my
middle daughter aka the Model, view A.

This pattern was easy but I did have a little trouble with the lining,
by the instructions: turn lining INSIDE by pulling each
back through front at shoulder seams.  It seems
simple now!
My mistake was using this stiff fabric for the lining.

I also could of made the hip & waist a size 8 or 10 as this
pattern runs large.  I omitted the zipper because
of this & I serged another 2 inches off  hem in
 hot pink that she likes.
She ended up wearing a belt &
it gave the dress some shape right away.

I will make this easy dress again but will use a similar
lining fabric next time.

Sorry your blog has been deleted

Mini me & I
Well I'm back.....& so is my blog.
I have been gone for so long because Google
deleted this blog & mini-me's blog while we were traveling Europe together.
I have traveled before on this blog & posted & commented with no problems.

This time we were in London, France & Portugal & we were not really going to post
but when we found a cool charity shop with some awesome fabric & frocks
in the middle of London, this came up:

"there has been unusual activity on your account, type in your phone number to
verify your blog"
I thought right away this was a scam & no way was I giving out my cell phone number (never mind the international charges)!
I closed the page & went to log in again & this showed up:
Blog has been removed
Sorry, the blog at SewCoco blah blah has been deleted.

Seriously Google?  It's not like if you even read my blogs or you would
know we are traveling & WTF do other bloggers do when they
freaking travel?  We had the correct password!!

By the time we landed in Portugal our blogs had been completely
deleted.....if you typed in mother daughter sewing/fashion.....we were gone.

Middle daughter-The Model

A few months later I returned to Vancouver & finally have time to sew again.
Mini-me does not want to continue our other blog as she has moved on to
Instagram & twitter which she likes for ease of posting & commenting,
but I did miss this blog - because this is where I
documented my novice sewing with my 3 daughters.
Mini-me was the first of my daughters to take interest right away & after 6 months
of sewing we started this blog together.

My oldest - rare appearance on this blog

So I gave Google my cell number now that I was back home & they text a code,
which I entered & voila, I had this blog back.  They didn't even verify that
this was me & indeed my cell phone....what do others do that
do not have a cell phone?

Lesson learned - back up your blog & maybe try another site?
Wordpress? My own domain? or just instagram & twitter, the
fast, barely there communication?

Rant.....over.... next up....a little sewing!

Powder Puff Skirt

Well hello there.....

London had beautiful weather so perfect for visiting castles & having high tea.  I also haunted
fabric stores & a fabulous charity shop right in the middle of London!
Paris was truly breath taking & I relaxed by sitting in cafes & writing
Poetry with Mini-me.  I also found so me beautiful fabric
and some fabulous Paule Ka heels!

Thank you for your lovely emails while I have been long gone
from this blog!

This is a silk skirt my girls sewed for me a while back that
I never got around to posting before I left.

It is leftover fabric from one of my silk curtains from the 90's that they serged with
hot pink.

 I like it!

The sewing dress

It is named this because of the sewing notions on the bodice,
& I finally made it into a dress!  New Look 6934 pattern.

I have had this fabric for about 5 years now & the skirt part
is a white circle upholstery fabric that I made pillows for our RV more than
10 years ago.

I used a cotton silk for the lining, leftover from my beach cover up.

An easy dress to make & I have made it many times,
but I always forget about
the bodice lining...how to match up correctly...
maybe next time I will remember!

I used a contrast Tiffany blue zipper....well, because I
love contrast!

 Lucinda my new mannequin is
 modeling it for me.

mini-me sews

Mini-me & I are off to Europe in a few weeks so we
have started to sew some garments for our trip.
She saw that I had all this fabric & wanted to design
her own dress!

She picked this pink polka dot fabric & a little Spring
time sateen for her design.

She sewed the skirt part & she asked for help with the stretchy polka
dot fabric.  I used a zig zag stitch of course.

I also serged the seams in tangerine because I still have not
changed the thread.......I know so bad.

This is her design....not bad for for a teen & so like her....original!  She plans on
wearing this in France with a Beret.

Projects for April....

I have been back to designing in addition to

sewing with patterns.  This New Look pattern 6125 is for my oldest who
is 20 years old.  She is in University & is tired of spending what little
cash she makes on clothes so she asked me to make this dress for her.

New Look workroom pattern 6051 I thought would make a colourful
lounge dress or cover up for me in this silky sateen fabric.

I am also drafting a bias skirt pattern in a larger size than the one
I made a few years ago for my middle daughters friend.

This blue & white cotton sewing machine fabric I bought a few years ago & decided to
design a contrast dress using New Look 6934.

Last but not least mini-me has designed her own dress
& this is all I can show you until she
finishes it!

Thanks for stopping by &

A houndstooth dress

My Fashion Star McCalls' 6553 pattern is finally done!

This pattern called for interfacing, I only had the fusible
facing left so I made it with that.

The pattern pocket instruction I still do not understand but used my own
way which is how I learned to make pockets.....from a book.
I love a dress with pockets!

I used a linen blend fabric.

Even I could understand the loop tie but I made it with a little ruffle.  I chose a
fun pink button.

I serged the hem with tangerine thread & still might do a proper hem but I
wore it like this today.

The back interfacing gives the dress a crisp look that I am liking.

So this "easy" dress made me revisit interfacing as I had not sewn with that
in a couple of years & made me remember how to insert seam pockets!

A twisted mess

the good.....

the bad....front twisted mess

and the ugly....serge neckline seams.

I knew my pattern sewing streak had to end & it did with this McCalls's 6704 view D, dress
that I made.  I used silver silk for the dress & tangerine chiffon for the overlay.
My shoes were the inspiration for this dress!

The chiffon was difficult to work with & I ended up serging it to make it resemble the
pattern.

I do like this flowy overlay but matching up the seams did not quite work so I am thinking
I cut the chiffon off grain? or maybe backwards?

so I will try this pattern again but I will cut a size 10 next time as this pattern ran large.
