mini-me sews

Mini-me & I are off to Europe in a few weeks so we
have started to sew some garments for our trip.
She saw that I had all this fabric & wanted to design
her own dress!

She picked this pink polka dot fabric & a little Spring
time sateen for her design.

She sewed the skirt part & she asked for help with the stretchy polka
dot fabric.  I used a zig zag stitch of course.

I also serged the seams in tangerine because I still have not
changed the thread.......I know so bad.

This is her design....not bad for for a teen & so like her....original!  She plans on
wearing this in France with a Beret.

Polka dot a la Kate Spade

I have had this heavy cotton blend polka dot fabric for a few years now & have finally made more skirts.

I first made a cover for my extra large ironing board the husband bought for me that no pre made covers fit.

For this skirt I made an A line skirt with contrasting red band & black bias tape for the hem.  I also made a side zipper.  I have been inspired by the designs of Kate Spade lately to finally use the remaining 1 meter of this fabric.

I really want to create more designs with the fabric I have.....but the new Spring fabric at the fabric stores are calling to me!

Polka dot Projects.......

This was a dress I made a couple of years ago for my middle daughter's birthday........I lined this dress in hot pink & for a novice seamstress it took me many fittings to get it right.

She picked the fabric & being the OCD freak that I am I bought 10 meters of this pure cotton fabric that was on sale for $2.00 a meter.

Recently my youngest wanted the same dress so I cut a smaller size & made it with an exposed side zipper.

Now it is a breeze to make this dress & it was done with only 1 fitting. I also have many projects to sew & thought I would use some of this fun fabric that I have so much of!

I made this modern baby bib that is my own design.........for part of a shower gift....

this started out as a baby hat but I couldn't get the design I had in my head right so it turned into this mini drawstring bag to hold the little necessities.  I will be linking up to my fave parties!

sewing side projects...........

I did a little sewing this weekend..... not on my Vogue patterns but on a couple of side projects.  This is a  sheer tunic that I made for a dinner party.  I used this chocolate polka dot sheer that I had leftover from a shawl & trim for a dress that I made a while back.

It is a basic bodice with a ruffle made by pulling the elastic gently while I was sewing.  I used my serger for the rolled hem & back seams.  I also did a zig zag stitch on the back seams as this fabric frays easily.

I also made another maxi skirt for a girlfriend.......this is a one seam skirt with a fashion knit stripe fabric that is a cotton blend.

I used a regular stitch for the waist and a zig zag stitch for the back seam.
