Happy New Year.....

My soul is still in the Maya Riviera so I did not finish my sewing projects......during this past year I changed my blog name........I should have thought that out more as I did not know I would lose most of my followers & all my photos.........I am still in the process of adding them back!  I am still very much a novice at sewing but I am still enthusiastic about learning so its all good............I was  featured on Burdastyle......that was a honor for me!

One of the best things about this blog is you.......readers....who leave comments......emails & share with me little parts of your life.......so I thought I would share with you my 3 fave projects from 2011.......my feather trim Las Vegas Little Black Dress......

my Snow White Cape.....I also made the skirt & top & this is what I wore last New Years Eve.........I was really into sewing capes this past year...........

my Snowball Dress was a fun project to sew & wear..........I am also having fun on twitter at ohsoDenise if you want to tweet!

Wishing all of you a very Happy New Year!

Mayan Riviera little black dress....

I finished my little black dress for Mexico just in time............I wanted a backless type of dress so this is a combination of a McCall's pattern (I don't want to say which one as it looks nothing like it) & my own design......

the front bodice is a simple cowl with an built in bandeau bra.......

the back part I made a mistake but covered it up by sewing a bustle......it is hard to take pictures of the black silk jersey fabric.......this fabric is great as it can be crammed into a suitcase & looks great when you arrive at your destination........my made by me crochet fringe bag was the inspiration for this dress......

More beach cover ups......

I have been sewing more beach wear as I am off to Cancun in a few days......so it has been a whirlwind around here lately...........

I used buttrick 5224 to make this cover up in view C......it is the shorter version........

so for this silk stripe cotton cover up I made view D the longer version........I serged the ends......

on the hanger it looks plain but it goes so well with my bikini........ & is silky soft......

Crochet Fringe Purse

I have been wanting a crochet fringe purse since I saw the Chanel bag this past summer......it also reminds me of the crochet bags I had as a kid in the 70's that I loved.

but as I do not want to spend $3000.00 for a freakin bag I came up with my own.

This crochet dress was at my church thrift store that I haunt for $2.99 & I thought it would make a great purse for my trip to the beach.

I had this old purse that I kept for the chain knowing one day I would re-use it.  I got my husband to remove the chain complete with hooks.

I snipped the threads that held together the Gypsy bodice & removed.

I used the zig zag stitch for the bottom of the inner bag for strength.

Hand sew the chain & link to bag.

I then decided to add a rhinestone zipper that I already had & did that by hand as the crochet is quite thick.  The zipper cost more than the dress that I got last year for $4.99.

I am trying out my new bag today to see if my stitching holds out on my $8.00 crochet fringe purse.

Beach cover up

I have been slowly getting back to sewing & I thought I would start with something simple before I get back to those Voque patterns so this is a beach cover up I made for a trip my husband is taking me on..........for our 20 year wedding anniversary.......I know 20 years?  Time has gone by so fast.........

& this is what my big hair will look like too as I doubt I want to pack my flat iron & deal with that everyday.....anyways in Metro Vancouver a beach cover up can cost more than $100.00 so I thought that was totally ridiculous so I made this one from the last of this knit striped cotton fabric that I got on sale last winter.  I did not use a pattern but it is real simple with only 3 pieces to sew together. I made it a hi/low style that I am liking at the moment.

skull clutch & cape

I made this skull clutch to go with this skull cape that I made for Halloween........

this cape is a Frankenstein of a Burdastyle skirt pattern & my own cape pattern....I used a glow in the dark fabric with a glow in the dark hot pink zipper because......well..... I love hot pink.........

for the clutch I used a stabilizer to give the bag some shape....plus it was all I had......

I sewed it right sides together............

added the hot pink zipper........

and done........I made this clutch large to hold all my stuff...........

I also added a skull pendent & chain on the end of the zipper pull that I had in my jewelry making box......

Happy Halloween!

friday fabulousness.....epic slip dress.......

This is a re fashion of my Nanny's Vanity Fair vintage slip.......a thought & something so simple to sew.....making something old...... new again & a slip that is too pretty to be covered up.............

I also used her lace pieces that was given to me.........

I sewed the larger lace to the bottom hem of the slip which had a tiny hem.............

my inspiration came from 1997......Cindy's slip dress for her wedding..........

and this photo that was sent to me.........to which I added my lace camisole made by me.

fur necklace........

Hello sewing & DIY friends!  I have been MIA due to a little illness soon after I returned home from my vacation but I am getting better.... so no worries!  I have missed sewing so much & I hope to start some fall projects that I have been thinking about very soon.   In the mean time I have been slowly working on some necklaces that I can do while resting in my bed.

For this glamorous necklace I used some fur that was leftover from a project last year, chains that I also had leftover from a dress project, jump rings, pliers & a couple of straight pins, needle & thread.

I started by using my pliers to twist the straight pins around the chains to make a link......

this joins the chains to the ring so it hangs nicely............

and also makes hand sewing the chains to the fur much easier.............

My inspiration came from one of my fur vests that I wore the other day & I am liking this trend that has returned this season.  Now maybe some fur bracelets or rings?

I had to take out the pin tucks to sew on all my seams........

I also made the flower out of a lighter silk.........

The inspiration for this dress...........Chanel 2009 Spring Collection.

Snow White Dress

I have been enjoying the hot sun this last week but I thought I better post some of my last minute sewing projects I made...... before summer really ends.

This was a simple white dress I made for my trip to California.....I added a slight ruffle at the top & today I am wearing it with a gingham tie with my blue cardigan.  I like these dress projects that are easy to sew & great for packing in a small suitcase.
