Coat Dress or Tent Dress?

My own design of a
Coat Dress.

A 1960's tent dress pattern.

2013 Victoria Beckman designs a modern
version of the tent dress that most
 are calling hideous.
I like it, it has most things I like
about a casual dress... its floaty,
comfortable to wear &
love the style of the hem with
the contrast bias trim.

Since we are in the middle of a cold spell
I designed this dress of, wait for it,
Polar Fleece!

I made it with front to back facings,

extra long sleeves,
in seam side pockets &

added my signature lined hoody.
It really was too baggy so
I gathered the front from
side to side seam.

It is comfortable, warm
& cosy to wear.

What do you think....a Coat dress or a Tent dress?

Polar Vortex Dress

Hello friends!
I hope you have a good start to the New Year.
I have had a bit of a break from sewing the last couple of months,
just the usual family, vacations, Christmas parties that took
away all my sewing time.  I also moved my sewing
space from my dressing room to the family room, it
was too small in my dressing room & no space to cut or design.
The "husband" set up a larger table,
moved stuff around so now I have more space with
proper lighting, which helps with my old eyes.
Bonus is an unused china cabinet, that
now stores all my fabric & some sewing books.
I can also be apart of the family while they
watch a movie....I can sew & this
is my first project....my Polar Vortex Dress.

It has been very cold here lately & with
temperature predictions of more coldness
next week, I thought of making this fleece dress.
Yes....fleece, I made one a few years back
Snowball Dress & I still had some
leftover fabric so I thought to use it up.
That is what I am trying to do
in the next couple of months,
to use my existing fabric & try new
patterns.

This dress is my own design,

I was sort of going for a
dress/coat with
colour contrast & tie.  I edged the hood
with the last of the last of my little snowballs.

Snowball Dress

I now have several projects on the go right now - not quite completing them - does this happen to everyone else?  I am usually OCD in completing things so this is not normal for me.   Plus I am moving my sewing studio to a larger room so everything is in transition right now.  I am also trying out fabric I have never sewed with before so I guess this is a good enough excuse for not finishing them.  I did design this winter white dress making up my own simple shift pattern.  I used snow white anti-pill fleece for the fabric.  Yes, I know fleece!  I wanted a white dress and this is what I had in my stash!!  This dress is so comfortable & cosy!  I did end up cutting a bodice part and a skirt part for a proper fit.

For my snowball scarflette I used my same pattern as my Noir Scarflette.
I always pin before I sew - it really does help.

The pom-poms were easy to sew on!

I added pockets that I cut free hand and sewed the matching trim on.

For the bottom hem of my dress I hand sewed on these circle rings - a pain to hand sew but I love the look!

I also got the stunning scissor necklace and bold brooch from a consignment store called Unique & Trendy.  I met the owner and she was very friendly and helpful!   She has her jewelry brought in from L.A so it is refreshing to see new and unique pieces!  Her store is fabulously laid out and I could spend a lot of time in there just browsing!  She lots of glam & glitter with a modern edge to it.  It truly is a unique & trendy boutique!

I am starting a Fashion Friday post on my blog and I would love to see what readers of this blog are creating.  Send me an email with a fashion item you have created and I will feature it next week.

This is my Fashion Friday outfit!
