Friday Fabulousness.....Mini maxi skirt

I had this lavender lace & did not quite know what to make with it.  I have been making quite a few of maxi skirts & dresses & after some thought I decided on a mini maxi skirt.....I am pretty sure someone else has thought of this...... although I could not find the name on Google.....if you know of another name for it let me know......for now I call it a mini maxi skirt.

Once I decided on a skirt........ the inspiration for the style came from my Nanny's ring........as I remember her wearing this ring & she loved lace too.

I cut & measured myself for 3 rectangle pieces...............

I made a simple gathered waist of elastic......hem the sides....a really simple lace skirt.

You have to use your imagination & picture this skirt worn on a beach (not on a car lift in my husbands garage) which is where I will be wearing it in a couple of weeks on my vacation.......

~ wishing you a weekend of fabulousness ~

My Romantic Lace Skirt

This months projects are going to be skirts for me!  With warm weather that should be here already & Easter fast approaching I need some skirts!  Also my 3 daughters like wearing skirts too so this is a perfect time to design & create some new ones.

I love lace so I chose to sew a romantic skirt for my first skirt this month!  This is a very easy project that I did this weekend.   I cut out two rectangle pieces of fabric, measured of course & added a elastic for the waist.
I set my machine on a high tension so when I sewed the elastic to the lace fabric it would ruffle.  I also had to pull gently on the elastic as I was sewing.

I always iron my seams!

I used my straight denim skirt as my underlay!

I initially just had a hem as you can see from the above pic but decided to add the black bias for contrast.
I purchased this fabric because of the pretty lace flower design.

Lace & Bleu Denim Skirt......

Welcome to my Fashion Friday post!  I have been sewing with lace & denim this week...do lace & denim go together?  I think so, it makes for a feminine edge type of look.  I have always loved lace and have an appreciation for seamstress's that make beautiful dresses & gowns with it!

For my design I started by looking at different types of lace at the fabric store and was surprised as there were some beautiful  floral lace that looked modern but I ended up choosing this circle lace that I liked as soon as I saw it.
I already had the denim from my Bleu Denim Dress and I made a straight skirt with a side zipper this time.  This denim skirt is the underlay to the lace so it is a simple skirt.

For the lace skirt I was a bit nervous cutting into such fine fabric but I used the circles on the lace as a guide along with my own pattern to keep the cut straight.
This lace is a medium weight lace so it is actually feels warm when worn with the denim if that makes any sense at all!

I had to sew this a bit slower on my machine because the lace was a bit thicker than most of the lace I have seen or sewn with.

This is what I found looking for inspiration this week!
This gorgeous Denim Dress!
