Spooky sewing

Made some more circle skirts this weekend for me & the girls.....in this reflective cotton skull fabric.  I added lace trim for the hem.

for these glow in the dark pj shorts, I used the pattern from the sewing book Sweet Nothings.

I hope to finish my "Minnie" dress in time for Halloween!

Pink Circle Skirt

I have been sewing some easy projects lately & this circle skirt is one of them.

I used my own simple pattern with a little help from mini-me.

I added the blue gingham bias tape on the outside hem to go with my blue lace up rainboots!

glamorous side project...blue clutch

I saw a similar clutch at a designer store while I was visiting Seattle a few weeks ago.  I did not like the high end price so I thought of a way to make my own.

I had this hide of turquoise leather from a project last year & cut on the grain.  I have a Caboodle full of beads & chose these ones.

I used my Skull clutch that I made last year as a template & made it basically the same way except I made this one with a flap.

I cut the leather a little thick so I could thread on the beads & tied knots to the ends.

I did break 2 leather needles.....my other 1960's Singer sewing machine had just called it quits so I used my newer one.

Love my new true blue clutch!

Epic Fail

I found myself this past weekend with a whole day of sewing....I was so excited to get started on a fall wardrobe.  I chose this McCall's 5702 dress jumper that had a 9 piece pattern but seemed OK for me to tackle.  But maddeningly after 6 hours of sewing when I tried on the jumper it fell right off me.  The sleeves and bodice were not the correct size even though I cut out to my measurements.  Those sleeves were a pain to fit in as the wool was thick so there was no way to take out all those seams without the wool coming apart.  I chose this pattern for the pockets so after I threw the jumper across my sewing room floor, I calmed down (glass of wine) & cut off the top & made into a skirt.

I used this soft thick wool that I had leftover from my crazy cape making nights a couple of years ago.

For the turtleneck I used this off white Ponte de Roma knit & the oh so easy Burda pattern
that I have made a couple times.

Here I am happier the next day going to work...not quite the jumper I planned for our rainy cold days but I like this skirt with the big pockets.  Do you try & save some of your epic fail sewing projects?  If so....send me a link I would love to see how you turned your projects around!

Modern Mother Daughter

I had a day off today & was relaxing around the house in my maxi skirt that I made last year.  I used  2 meters of fabric & a 3 inch wide black elastic band & side zipper.....so easy!

My youngest really likes the fabric & asked me to make her a dress.  I did not have enough leftover of this thick cotton but I thought of a pattern I had just bought on sale.

This McCalls 6607 tunic top.

This has to be the easiest pattern ever with only 3 pieces!

We both love the cut of this tunic & I am usually not a "tunic" person.  I serged the hem & the inside of the cowl with a pink/white thread as I was too lazy to change the thread in my serger.

We have been having a beautiful fall weather lately that its hard to believe it was our Thanksgiving long weekend......so sunny & warm to walk off some of that turkey & stuffing!
