Mayan Riviera little black dress....

I finished my little black dress for Mexico just in time............I wanted a backless type of dress so this is a combination of a McCall's pattern (I don't want to say which one as it looks nothing like it) & my own design......

the front bodice is a simple cowl with an built in bandeau bra.......

the back part I made a mistake but covered it up by sewing a bustle......it is hard to take pictures of the black silk jersey fabric.......this fabric is great as it can be crammed into a suitcase & looks great when you arrive at your destination........my made by me crochet fringe bag was the inspiration for this dress......

More beach cover ups......

I have been sewing more beach wear as I am off to Cancun in a few days......so it has been a whirlwind around here lately...........

I used buttrick 5224 to make this cover up in view C......it is the shorter version........

so for this silk stripe cotton cover up I made view D the longer version........I serged the ends......

on the hanger it looks plain but it goes so well with my bikini........ & is silky soft......

Crochet Fringe Purse

I have been wanting a crochet fringe purse since I saw the Chanel bag this past summer......it also reminds me of the crochet bags I had as a kid in the 70's that I loved.

but as I do not want to spend $3000.00 for a freakin bag I came up with my own.

This crochet dress was at my church thrift store that I haunt for $2.99 & I thought it would make a great purse for my trip to the beach.

I had this old purse that I kept for the chain knowing one day I would re-use it.  I got my husband to remove the chain complete with hooks.

I snipped the threads that held together the Gypsy bodice & removed.

I used the zig zag stitch for the bottom of the inner bag for strength.

Hand sew the chain & link to bag.

I then decided to add a rhinestone zipper that I already had & did that by hand as the crochet is quite thick.  The zipper cost more than the dress that I got last year for $4.99.

I am trying out my new bag today to see if my stitching holds out on my $8.00 crochet fringe purse.

Beach cover up

I have been slowly getting back to sewing & I thought I would start with something simple before I get back to those Voque patterns so this is a beach cover up I made for a trip my husband is taking me on..........for our 20 year wedding anniversary.......I know 20 years?  Time has gone by so fast.........

& this is what my big hair will look like too as I doubt I want to pack my flat iron & deal with that everyday.....anyways in Metro Vancouver a beach cover up can cost more than $100.00 so I thought that was totally ridiculous so I made this one from the last of this knit striped cotton fabric that I got on sale last winter.  I did not use a pattern but it is real simple with only 3 pieces to sew together. I made it a hi/low style that I am liking at the moment.

skull clutch & cape

I made this skull clutch to go with this skull cape that I made for Halloween........

this cape is a Frankenstein of a Burdastyle skirt pattern & my own cape pattern....I used a glow in the dark fabric with a glow in the dark hot pink zipper because......well..... I love hot pink.........

for the clutch I used a stabilizer to give the bag some shape....plus it was all I had......

I sewed it right sides together............

added the hot pink zipper........

and done........I made this clutch large to hold all my stuff...........

I also added a skull pendent & chain on the end of the zipper pull that I had in my jewelry making box......

Happy Halloween!
